Navigating Holiday Stress: Encouraging Teams to Unplug and Recharge

Anyone else find that holidays are joyful and stressful? Even more so for those of us who work in companies where the fiscal year lines up with the calendar year. Ugh! We’re with you.

Luckily, time off – even if only short breaks – helps.  And in even better news, it doesn’t just improve well-being but also enhances performance following.

As a leader, you can encourage them to unplug and recharge by:

  • Setting Expectations Early: Communicate clear deadlines and encourage employees to complete critical tasks before the holidays.
  • Being Clear: Let your team know it’s okay to disconnect during their time off. The best way to signal this is to set the example by taking time off and sharing how you’re unplugging.
  • Getting Moving: Bet this one surprised you! Time away from our desks provides much more of a recharge when it is coupled with movement, even a walk around the block. Bonus: Set a team goal or contest for miles tread over the break.
  • Encouraging Small Acts of Balance: Suggest simple strategies, like setting no-meeting zones or email breaks, both of which are great ways to refuel during busy days.

If you’ve got other creative ideas, please share them and we’ll spread the word.

As always, reach out if we can be helpful to you as you continue on the path of igniting exceptional performance at your company.
